Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America

Tipping the scales in the right direction.

Marie Cicogni

Director of Events

After an adult lifetime of morbid obesity, Marie became a RNY Gastric Bypass post op in June, 2005.    A lifetime commitment to embracing a healthier lifestyle in every facet  ~ including physical, emotional and spiritual ~ has become one of a few fervent and  integral parts of her new life.  Another, and most passionate desire to come out of her own experience is to embrace others in the weight loss surgery community at any stage of their journey.

Marie’s career background  includes 40+ years in the hospitality industry.  Over 35 of that was in hotel management, both operationally as well in sales and marketing.  She also has 5 years experience as a meeting & event planner with one of the largest California State associations, locating venues and negotiating contracts for an average of 150 meetings and events annually, with attendance from 10 to 1500 people.  Meeting planning experience also includes detailing events, providing on-site contact services and wrapping up all post-event details.

A year ago, out of a deep personal need to “pay it forward” to the WLS community, Marie volunteered to assist the fledgling Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America with event planning services.  She quickly realized the potential and power this foundation has for offering support to, and improving the lives of, people who are in need of surgical intervention for weight loss and post-ops looking for emotional and educational support in their individual journeys.  She would honor the opportunity to share both her professional and personal experience to the growth and success of the WLSFA.  She is already committed personally to the mission and philosophy and is excited to do the same publicly.
