Sarah Halbrook of Arizona was formerly morbidly obese at over 350 pounds. On March 12, 2009 Sarah had laproscopic gastric bypass surgery and just over one year later Sarah is maintaining a healthy weight of about 165 pounds.
Having lost nearly 200 pounds had a tremendous impact on Sarah’s life, but all those years of being morbidly obese stretched out her skin, and with such a great loss of weight that skin now hangs in lose folds around her body. Sarah has documented her weight loss journey through videos uploaded to YouTube and has become an inspiration to many others that have had or are considering weight loss surgery. [read more]
GRANT FUNDED Surgery Date: October 17 2011

JJ Vidro, A 24 year old Nursing student from Ocala Florida was 5 month into his 6 month Bariatric program. Just weeks before his surgery JJ was informed by the hospital that he needed to pay his co pay in full before surgery or it would be cancelled and he would have to start at square one and go though another six month program. As a student, JJ did not have the resources to fund the co pay. He was heart broken but prayed for a miracle! Maria Fitzpatrick Blogger at FormerlyFluffy became aware of JJ’s story and brought Mr. Vidro to the WLSFA’s attention. After some Executive level meetings the WLSFA Emergency Grant Program was created and we were able to fund a grant to cover JJ’s Co Pay. His surgery is in just a few days! We have learned in the past 18 month that some people need just a little help to gain access to surgery. We will always earmark funds to help out in time sensitive emergency situations like Mr. Vidro’s case. It feel good to know the WLSFA has help make his dreams come true!
