I’m so honored to be part of the WLS Foundation of America serving as the face of Public Relations! Many of you may know me as Diva Taunia on YouTube, and I’m a professional jazz vocalist who spent most of my career in an image-driven industry while morbidly obese at 5′7″ and 311 lbs. It wasn’t until one day on stage, when I realized that I was heavily breathing into the microphone while standing still, that I knew that the weight was affecting not only my stage performance, but my quality of life. After six months of research, I decided to have RNY gastric bypass surgery on 3/25/08 with Dr. Donald Hess at Boston Medical Center, and it turned out to be the be decision I’ve ever made.
I have since lost over 160 lbs, and has become a passionate advocate within the weight loss surgery community. I documented my entire journey from pre-surgery to post-surgery, recording the good, the bad, the ugly, and the (hopefully) uplifting on YouTube, which I continue to update in the maintenance phase of my journey. I also the host “The Backstage Pass Radio Program,” on every Monday evening at 7pm EST, and the show focuses on bariatric products, wls related topics, special guests, and giveaways. I am thankful every day for the friends and members of this community who motivate and inspire me to continue down this path of health and wellness and to help others find their way as well.
