Linda J. Lombardo Memorial Grant

WLSFA friend and long time supporter, Linda Lombardo passed away earlier this year from very aggressive pancreatic cancer. Linda was active in the weight loss surgery community, a wonderful role model to the WLS family, and always up for an adventure with a smile on her face. She was known for being a dedicated volunteer and supporter of the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America (WLSFA) as well as other WLS organizations.

She was able to live the life she always wanted. To know Linda was to love her.

We are pleased to announce that we are creating a grant in her name, “The Linda J. Lombardo Memorial Grant” to honor her memory and her service to the WLSFA,

Linda made a difference. As very few do. In her own way. With her full heart and love to share, she set out to live her new-found life (after WLS and retirement)… and she succeeded, oh how she succeeded. Always up for adventure – she rode a bicycle with me, as part of the “Bike with Bill” WLSFA Fundraiser, after not having been on a bike for decades and only months after healing from two broken arms!!

She must have kept a bag packed because she was always traveling to conferences – usually the first one into town – and always met by a friend – one she may have met years earlier or just minutes before (did Linda ever know a stranger?).

It’s easier to count the lives that Linda didn’t touch in some way. The only way you could avoid being under Linda’s spell was to never meet her. And I feel sad for those who didn’t get the chance. I got the feeling that she never forgot anybody she met.

May the spirit of Linda live within all of us and May we keep it alive by remembering what Linda brought to all of us – an almost childlike excitement for experiencing the little things in life, the joy of making and holding a friend, faith that love can conquer all, and the knowledge that we’re all in this life together so let’s be there for each other in love.
